I’m sorry that you had to hang around with me I was a no good woman with a wore out ring trouble always seemed to come ‘round my door and when it got me out, I went lookin’ for more I know you don’t wanna hear the same old things but I’m getting it together up in Bowling Green I ain’t done much in this whole life
but when you found me babe, I was another man’s wife well, I can’t take back the things I’ve done always looking for new ways to run just to find myself in the middle of the road picking up the pieces that I just let go spent my nights a-drinkin’ in a Warren bar taking sips of bourbon from a mason jar wearing out my welcome every place I strayed so I packed my things and I stole away well, I made to the chapel come the morning light thought I’d ask the Lord above to leave my sins behind but the preacher man said that ain’t the way to go ‘cause even Jesus Christ can’t ever save my soul well, I can’t take back the things I’ve done always looking for new ways to run just to find myself in the middle of the road picking up the pieces that I just let go no, I can’t take back the things I’ve done always looking for new ways to run just to find myself in the middle of the road picking up the pieces that I just let go

well, he thought he was a real Roy Rogers riding high in them cowboy plains but he ain’t ever seen no saddle and he ain’t ever held no reins he wants to be a country western singer go on about his outlaw ways but he ain’t gonna get no better if he ain’t got no back to break oh yeah, the highway it ain’t the right way it ain’t the only way to get around you can’t pretend, son ‘bout where you’ve been, son ‘cause in the end it’ll only bring you down he better watch on the ground he’s walkin’ if he ain’t got his own set of roots ‘cause any wanderin’ soul can get a cowboy hat and any fool can wear a pair of boots now he says he wants to move to Nashville and make his home on that music row but if he’s singing ‘bout a life that he ain’t ever had he better find another place to go oh yeah, the highway it ain’t the right way it ain’t the only way to get around you can’t pretend, son ‘bout where you’ve been, son ‘cause in the end it’ll only bring you down yeah, in the end it’ll only bring you down

came home today with a tear in my eye wishin' I'd punched that old clock my last time boy I sure hate, to let it get me down this way but this old life just ain't a game that I play it's days like these, when I've got it all wrong working for what, til the feeling's all gone it ain't worth the fight, I know that much is true but it's days like these I don't know what to do it's days like these I don't know what to do I've never been lost, but I've never been found doing what they say, with both feet on the ground well, God only knows what I may have store but I know that there's got, there must be something more it's days like these, when I've got it all wrong working for what, til the feeling's all gone it ain't worth the fight, I know that much is true but it's days like these I don't know what to do it's days like these I don't know what to do day has run long, I'm tired and spent can't tell if this life is the one that I'm meant tried to find peace on a street headin' south when I get there I'll see what this pain's all about it's days like these, when I've got it all wrong working for what, til the feeling's all gone it ain't worth the fight, I know that much is true but it's days like these I don't know what to do it's days like these I don't know what to do

I started drinking whiskey again I went and threw myself back in I said I was through, but I guess that ain’t true ‘cause I started drinking whiskey again I really liked to drink my wine it really helped to ease my mind but it couldn’t start me up the way that Jack Daniels does so I started drinking whiskey again I get the feeling when the sun goes down feeling loose, ready to hit the town the day’s all been spent, but it’s too early to quit so I started drinking whiskey again you can find me under neon lights where the music and the drinking’s right won’t you fill it to the top, ‘cause this is all that I got since I started drinking whiskey again I started drinking whiskey again I went and threw myself back in I said I was through, so if this sounds out of tune it’s ‘cause I started drinking whiskey again
